Overview / Summary of Topics:

The problems with low relevance are that some of the activities are viewed as busy work, and students will have low engagement and low retention and application.  The importance of relevance is the perception of how activities benefit learners, greater relevance leads to a greater interest, interest coincides with retention and application, and relevance should not be assumed.  Ways to increase relevance are to associate them with past events, current benefits, and future goals.  Final tips, relevance is secondary to objectives, different responses to different scenarios, and the material won't be relevant to everyone.
